I love food, there’s no getting around it. I am grateful that I don’t live with a wheat intolerance because I particularly love Italian food. I love smooshy pasta and Tuscan pastry, the incredible smell of olive oil freshly pressed, a glass of Chianti lightly floating around the glass, and the gorgeous aromatic herbs that [...]

Perspective Gained

May 20, 2010

in Wisdom

Perspective is a powerful thing.
Sometimes removing ourselves from our everyday world and our problems and the framework of our thinking can be life changing.
A few years ago we shuffled our little family to the gorgeous Fiji isles for a few years with my husband’s work.
Our youngest started school there and pretty soon we were going [...]

I have listened for years to my various girlfriends talk about Family
Night at their homes and the hilarity and great memories that seem to
be involved. My little family of four has always enjoyed Friday night pizza
night, with movies, popcorn and dessert which we observe like a
ritual, but since moving house recently, giving us a lot [...]

So, I have just put down Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously by Julie Powell, and am so inspired I could just about cry. Inspired to cook with butter (I did in fact last night cook a fabulous risotto with a generous amount), inspired to do something different, to do it for myself [...]

I believe we need to keep our kids busy.
We all live in fear of the trouble we anticipate they could get into if left idle and bored, and I think we need to be proactive in spending time with them and making opportunities for them to create and play.
I don’t mean exhausting them, [...]

(For the fussy ones, you can leave out the ginger and mushrooms).
Enjoy!

I have just returned from a week in Vietnam, and have come back with a new sponsor child and a renewed appreciation for fresh milk, the English language and clean water.
The other thing that has stayed with me is the fact that no matter where we live or who we are, we all value the [...]

As Christmas once again draws near, in 2008 it is approaching with a bit of a different feel. We find ourselves surrounded by talk of the world changing before our eyes and it is easy to buy into the fear, wondering where we will find ourselves tomorrow and the day after, next month or next [...]

Hi everyone
Well as many of you know I love to eat. I like all kids of food and don’t believe in dieting. However in keeping with all things yum, I have recently become a convert of a UK show called ‘Cook Yourself Thin’. There are four 30-something spunky girls who are either chefs or foodies [...]
