Making Memories

To this day not a Friday goes by without my father firing up the barbeque to cook dinner for our extended brood.
Sure, it happens the world over, yet there is something about the weekend barbie that is quintessentially Australian. It seems like learning to char any and every cut of meat on a barbeque is [...]

My childhood could be summed up in a sun drenched 70’s polaroid photo.  I can’t thank my parents enough for the fabulous ‘everydays’ they created for me and my 8 siblings.
The long weekends, however, were always so much more exciting, knowing that my parents had planned 3 days of absolutely nothing for us. Now, every [...]

Thought of the week…
With Autumn putting on such an amazing display this year, we have taken to afternoon walks. Jump in your gumboots, grab a friend, your iPod or just your camera and find the leafiest streets to stomp through. Take the time to enjoy the great outdoors.

As a young child, I remember bringing breakfast in bed to my mum on Mother’s Day. She would be propped up by 101 cushions from around the house and a host of teddy bears (supplied by yours truly) ready to receive our love offerings on the one morning of the year she actually gave herself [...]

Post image for The Dream Table

To continue our focus on living creatively with toddlers, I have decided to repost an article written quite some time ago, in reference to my daughter’s younger years.

Easter Egg Biscuits
As kids, each year, my mum would buy a packet of Arnotts Arrowroot biscuits for us to decorate with icing and candy to resemble Easter eggs. I have continued this tradition with my daughter, nieces and nephews. You can make your own biscuits or buy egg shaped ones.
Egg ‘n’ Spoon Races
Easter is a [...]

Post image for Family Night … let the games begin

Celebrity Heads
The aim of this game is to guess which famous person you are. Choose one person to be a ‘celebrity’ for each round and stick a name to their forehead. We have a selection of crazy hats that we pin famous names on. Each ‘celebrity’ can ask as many questions as desired with only yes [...]

I have listened for years to my various girlfriends talk about Family
Night at their homes and the hilarity and great memories that seem to
be involved. My little family of four has always enjoyed Friday night pizza
night, with movies, popcorn and dessert which we observe like a
ritual, but since moving house recently, giving us a lot [...]

Post image for Johnny Cash on the menu

Whilst preparing dinner tonight, my daughter Mannie and I decided to crank up the stereo.
I firmly believe that playing music while cooking is a brilliant way to create fabulous memories for your children. Once they have flown the coop and have a moment of homesickness or nostalgia, with the push of their iPod button, they [...]
