Family Room co-founder Susan J Sohn

Susan Sohn is a Canadian-born writer, speaker, talk-radio host and social media personality. Through her online communities thefamilyroom, susanjsohn.com and RealLife internet radio shows and podcasts, live family room events, newspaper columns, television and media appearances, Susan is communicating her passion for building extraordinary families, developing relationships and strengthening the communities we live in. Having lived in Hong Kong, Sydney and Los Angeles, Susan and her husband Philip currently reside in Calgary, Canada, with their three wonderful children, Sophia, Gabriel and Ella. A natural gatherer of people, Susan’s vivacious personality and straight-talking style make her a friend and mentor to many. She is a fearless and compassionate woman.

Family Room co-founder Michaela Grul

Michaela Grul is a girl with a story. Adopted and raised in the leafy suburbs of Sydney, she was planted in a family not only enormous in size but in heart as well. Being one of nine children in a home which opened its arms to hundreds of foster children, she gained a richness and tenacity of spirit that equipped her for the unexpected journey of raising a daughter alone. Single mum to Maneesha, 15, Michaela is committed to sharing her life experiences, the good, the bad and the ugly, in the hope that whoever crosses her path feels empowered to continue their personal journey with strength, gratitude and a million reasons to smile. Trained as a graphic designer and interior decorator, Michaela’s passion lies in creating the perfect space for families and friends to flourish.

Eduardo Dos Remedios

Eduardo dos Remedios (or Ted as we like to call him) writes from Barcelona, Spain, where he lives with wife Rosie, a personal trainer, and their two beautiful daughters. Eduardo grew up in Hong Kong and spent many of his formative years exploring every nook and cranny that city had to offer. He developed a passion for cycling, fitness and overall health and wellness. Through his gift with both written and spoken word, Eduardo takes you on the journey with him, inspiring, encouraging and challenging you to adopt a healthy lifestyle. He is a philosopher, a poet and a true explorer of life.

Deborah Johnson


Deborah is one of those extraordinary people who quietly but confidently goes about life making a difference every day. She has three children {ages 15 to 11} and is wife to Brian. Deborah is an adventure-loving journalist who has travelled the globe. She is a native English rose but has had the unique opportunity of making Hong Kong her home for 12+ years and now resides with her family in Australia. Deborah and Susan have been friends for 15 years, meeting in the cafeteria of the South China Morning Post on a humid Hong Kong day. Deborah is a full-time working mother, she works for News Limited in Sydney {in the tech department ~ she’s the reason we are online} and manages life with ease. Her gentle nature and charming smile are a breath of fresh air in every friendship.
