Whilst preparing dinner tonight, my daughter Mannie and I decided to crank up the stereo.
I firmly believe that playing music while cooking is a brilliant way to create fabulous memories for your children. Once they have flown the coop and have a moment of homesickness or nostalgia, with the push of their iPod button, they can be transported straight back to home cooking, laughter and a strong sense of belonging.
Upon asking Mannie who would be serenading us, without skipping a beat, Johnny Cash starting whinging about his ‘ring of fire’. After the giggles died down, we were singing at the top of our voices and setting the table in a whirl of fun. After dinner was done, it was time to turn the music up a little more and dance for our lives with June Carter.
The joy in my girl’s eyes was priceless. All it took was one song, one meal, one moment of inhibition. I am so grateful to have these moments with Mannie … they will be remembered for years.
I encourage you to grab these opportunities when they turn up or create them when they beckon.
We invited Johnny Cash … who will you invite? Leave your comments. We would LOVE to hear of your memory making moments.

Great idea Michaela! What a fun way to make memories with your daughter! I love dancing with my little guy and he loves it too – glad to know I’m on the right track! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank Tanya. It’s the small spontaneous stuff that’s worth recording hey.
Michaela.
I love it MG. You have taught me to do this and it is amazing!
I hate Johhny Cash! But…I get the sentiment. We invite the cast of High School Musical into our home often!
